Setup | Troubleshooting

Outlook allows you to control the destination of incoming email based on several different user defined criteria which are implemented in the "Rules Wizard". One of these "Rules" takes all messages with a certain word or words in the subject line and sends them to a specified folder. You can use this rule to take all messages with [BULK-?] in the subject line and delete them or send them to a SPAM folder that you can create. This will help keep your Inbox less cluttered with unwanted email. You can check your SPAM folder once a day or so to quickly see if there are any emails of interest to you. Then you can clean out this folder by deleting all the emails.

setup procedure
  1. Open up Outlook. At the top, click on Tools then Rules Wizard as shown below (Note: If you do not see "Rules Wizard" click on the double down arrow to view more selections.)

  2. Click on New... on the right.

  3. Beneath Which type of rule do you want to create? click on Move messages based on content.
Underneath Rule description click on specific words.

  4. Next to Add new: type in the spam type you wish to control ([BULK-L], [BULK-M], [BULK-H], etc).
In this example we will filter out the highly-likely spam, [BULK-H]
Click on the Add button. You should see the the keyword listed under Search list:
    Click on the OK button.

  5. Under Rule description click on specified.

  6. Click on the folder where you would like the e-mails to be sent.
In this example, we want to delete the items, so we click on the Deleted Items folder.
You could also create a SPAM folder and have all [BULK-?] messages moved there for review.
    Click on the OK button.

  7. Make sure that everything is correct beneath the Rule description area and click on the Finish button.

  8. You should now see the rule listed in your Rules Wizard box.
If you wish to disable a rule, simply uncheck the box next to the rule.
    Click on the OK button.

Now all messages that arrive in your inbox, that have [BULK-H] in the subject, will be deleted.
