  1. Double-click on My Computer.

  2. Double-click on Dial-Up Networking.

  3. If there is no "AccessUS" icon or another existing dialer, double-click on Make New Connection. (If there is already an existing "AccessUS" dialer, skip to Step 7.)

  4. Name the connection AccessUS and click Next.

  5. Type in your area code and local access number and click Next. (If you are unsure of your local access number, click here to find a number.)

  6. Click on Finish.

  7. The Icon "Accessus" should have appeared in the Dial-Up Networking Window. Click on Accessus with the RIGHT mouse button and select Properties from the menu.

  8. Verify the phone number is correct. Then click on the Server Types tab. (It may be a button next to the Configure... button instead of a tab on earlier versions of Windows 95.)

  9. Make sure the Type of Dial-Up Server: reads: "PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet".
Uncheck every item except for Enable Software Compression & TCP/IP.
Then click on the TCP/IP Settings button.

  10. Select Server Assigned IP Address.
Select Server Assigned Name Server Address.
Make sure Use IP Header Compression and Use Default Gateway on Remote Network at the bottom are both checked.
Click OK when all of the above information is entered correctly.

  11. Now click on the Scripting tab.
Make sure that the File name: field is blank.
    Then click OK.
(Note: some versions of Windows 95 do not have a scripting tab. If you do not have this tab, click OK and then click OK again and
    skip on to step 12.)

  12. Close the Dial-up Networking Window.

  13. Double-click on Control Panel.

  14. Double-click on Network.

  15. Verify which network components are installed. The only items we require are Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP; if you have Client for Microsoft Networks installed also, it can be a good idea to leave that there if you want to have the option of saving your password later.
Remove all other items unless you are connected to a Local Area Network (LAN), in which case you should consult your System/LAN Administrator before changing any settings.
Finally, highlight TCP/IP and click on Properties.

  16. Set the IP Address tab to Obtain an IP Address Automatically.

  17. Click on the WINS Configuration tab. Select Disable WINS Resolution.

  18. Click on the Gateway tab and ensure there are no installed gateways. If there are, highlight the installed gateway and click Remove, unless you are on a LAN (see step 15 regarding LAN settings).

  19. Go to the DNS Configuration tab and select Disable DNS. Click on OK. Then click OK once more on the Configuration screen.

  20. The computer will prompt you to restart. Click Yes.

  21. Once the computer has rebooted, double-click on My Computer. Double-click on Dial-Up Networking . Then double-click on Accessus.

  22. A Connect To window will appear. Type in your username (your username is the same as your full email address) in all lower case letters. Then type in your password (it will appear as stars). Once that is entered, press the Connect button.

  23. The modem status will appear in the next box, proceeding through Initializing Modem, Dialing, Verifying Username and Password and Logging on to Network. At any time you can abort this procedure by pressing Cancel.
